Dr. Laura Collins - Veterinarian

I was raised in Brooklyn, NY, where after serious deliberation, I chose veterinary medicine as my career at the age of 4.

I was raised in a house full of dogs and cats, who were my best childhood friends. I started horseback riding later and added them to the list of animals I love.

I have been practicing in New Jersey since I graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1991, and in addition to working in private practice I have worked as a shelter veterinarian since 2004, when I joined Tabby’s Place, A Cat Sanctuary. I enjoy helping all animals, but especially am honored to be able to help the most needy cats, who have no owners, at Tabby’s Place.

I am married with a 22 year old son who graduated from  TCNJ. Christopher’s upbringing has been a little different, and he grew used to watching me bottle feed orphan kittens and take over the spare bathroom as a makeshift cat hospital for strays and foster cats. My husband and my son have helped me on quite a few occasions with some of these cats (and occasional dogs), and even my own three cats endure the parade of fosters with tolerance.

I view one of the most important responsibilities of my job in private practice as the education of my clients. I am always willing to answer questions and discuss the reasoning behind my recommendations. Because my patient’s care rests in the hands of their owner, I want my clients to fully understand their pet’s condition and how best to keep their pet healthy.
