Heartworm Test Now Detects Exposure to Lyme, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasmosis.

Nottingham Animal Hospital now uses the 4DX Test from Idexx Laboratories to test dogs for heartworm disease.   This innovative test also determines if your dog has been exposed to the Lyme, Ehrlichia, or Anaplasmosis organisms.    At this time, the current recommendations from many tick-borne disease experts, is to treat any dog that tests positive to these 3 infectious diseases with a course of doxycycline, an antibiotic.

Since using this test exclusively for several months, we have been amazed at the number of dogs who have tested positive to 1 or more of these organisms during routine screening.  

Along with the American Heartworm Society, we recommend a yearly blood test for heartworm disease, and this 4DX test also tests for 3 other diseases at the same time.
